Latest Updates from Berwick Brewing's Website:
Hey Guy, your recently revised beer list reminded me that it's been 2 1/2 months since I had any of yer beer! Hope all is going well, and that I can make it out for a Season's Wheatings before it's gone!
Last I spoke with Guy the Seasons Wheatings was going strong.....and I'll admit I need to get down to visit Guy also.
I was there this past weekend, and the Wheatings was still on. I remain impressed by the high quality of the beer across the range of styles Guy's chosen to brew. It's really hard for me to pick a favorite, since I've enjoyed them all.
I spoke with Stingo and he said he tried it. Hopefully he'll chime in here. He did say he liked the Keller but no details beyond that....Stingo?
Someone has to step up and take one for the team...
Well apparently the kellerbier is popular enough that Guy's cutting off growler sales of it. (People are drinking it too fast.) The hefe-weizen though is greenlighted for growlers again.
OK, what is an "Apfel-Weizen"? Google pulls up a slew of pages in German. I'm guessing Apple? If so, see you at One Guy!
Correct...it is an Apple flavored weizen
Damn it! Now I HAVE to go down there and try the apfel-weizen. There are worse problems to have of course...Actually, I'd've gone down anyhow to pick up some growlers for a family gathering on Saturday, so this just sweetens the deal.
It's actually not a seperate beer, I put a splash of fresh cider in the glass and fill it with Hefe-Weizen. It's been quite popular.
Apparently... as you're down to the lager, pilsner and wheatings. I'm very much looking forward to trying the Oktoberfest though.
I saw your classified on Probrewer.com and wanted to know if you were still considering candidates?
Yes, to be considered please forward your information to: firstname.lastname@example.org---Guy
I just got in from Guy's, and I know the dunkel weizen is gone (it was really good), and more wheat ale is in the works, but is not currently on draft. That leaves the Berwick Lager, Peach Wheat and Atomic Punk IPA on draft. As for the IPA, yes, it's very good too - for a self described malt-friendly brewer, Guy's done a great job with this "crossover" attempt.
Thanks....I'm sure we'll see a larger batch of Dunkel soon...
"Guy is also hinting at a limited return of an old favorite also...stay tuned."Hoping for either the Rauch Bock , or the Hondo Keller. Both were fantastic.
I'd vote fo rthe Peach Wheat but I know better....perhaps Guy's original Dark lager would be nice to see again for me...
One of you is right...
I don't remember the Rauch timing but I'd consider the Hondo a newer favorite not an "old" favorite. I'm sticking with the dark lager.
Bil: You're right, but you're wrong.
Guy don't tease me with the possibility of a Feb release of Peach Wheat....hmmm "right but wrong"....hmmmm I don't remember you having a bock beer...but the puzzle solver me is thinking that either dark is right and lager is wrong or lager is right and dark is wrong....I think I'm going to need to ask the audience or phone a friend...
What was the biggest hit of The Presidents of the United States of America?
Given that "Lump" doesn't sound like an appetizing beer...I'm going to have to say PEACHES!!!!
Now on tap.......
The Peach Wheat kicked while I was there this afternoon.
Ah so it lasted til Sunday. Glad I had a chance to get down on Saturday for my taste of it. It aged very well and clarified very nicely, to the point I was wondering if the beer was filtered. It wasn't, but it was awfully dang tasty and well-balanced, that's for sure.
Atomic Punk IPA is now Atomic Punk IPL (India Pale Lager) as of last Sunday.
As of 11/21, the Peach Wheat and Hondo are off. The following were on:Pils (fresh)Wheat (and apfel)Berwick LagerCheers,Jason
Thanks J....I just received another update and the Pils is already gone. I'lll miss the Peach Wheat until next year...glad I had a growler!
For those of you who haven't had Bill's Porter yet, do yourself a favor and get down to Berwick and try some. Inky black, with just a hint of amber/red when held to a light. Nice flavor, bitter coffee and a hint of chocolate. Really, really nice. And the Hondo goes wonderfully with leftover turkey, as I learned today...
According to the Facebook updates, these are the Dark Days of December... :)
They (and 20lbs of raspberries) have arrived
I'm sorry to report the Bourbon Barrel Stout is gone. Steve, Jake and I shared the final few drops, the last taste of it until who knows when?
Well, what the hell is the dark secret? We're waiting...
Apparently it's still a secret if even I don't know...
Sorry CWO, it's all gone.
is front street wheat just a new name for what has bee called the wheat ale?
Yes...same beer new name.
hey just signed up and wanted to say hello while I read through the postshopefully this is just what im looking for looks like i have a lot to read.
O.K. Guy...here I go again. About 6 months ago I happened to ask you a question that I'd been dying to ask ya for years. I had asked if you still had the receipe's for your old Franconia brews ( while wearing the Franconia hat & t-shirt ). You replied.." maybe one day". Will you let us know if it is one of them if you do brew it or will it have to be left a BIG SECRET for reason's...? Long ago I had often mentioned that your Franconia line were, are & always will be right at the top of my all time favorite beers.
Makebelieve: Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I do still have the old recipes/production notes, but it's doubtful we'll make the same beers again. If we do it won't be a secret but don't hold your breath. Thanks again!---Guy
Guy and Tom,Thanks for the hospitality yesterday! It was a great visit as always, and the beers were a fresh breeze after the hops-and-malt heavy summer selection I found while in southern New England. Guy, you were right that the Front Street Wheat is the ultimate summer beer. Extremely tasty and the growler is almost gone early this afternoon...and I'm all by myself!Great to see more progress at the brewery every time I stop by, and the bier garten is a picturesque setting for drinking great beer!Hope to see you again soon,Sam
